Subject: Tyven9, you miss the point COMPLETELY!
Peter Campbell, Phil Hine and other Chaos Magicians and their collected works were NEVER meant to be explorations or explanations of Thelemite rituals! They were familiar rituals to the anarchic punks who developed this new branch of magick, sure, and in some cases these guys borrow from them, but Liber Null and the Psychonaut were no more meant to be explorations of Thelema than Crowley's Liber 666 and Thelemic banishing and invocations were meant to be confused with simi.ar rites in Gardnerian Witchcraft! These new mages found the dogmatic repetition of the acts and incantations used by the OTO to be too stifling. They looked back on folks likeAustin Osman Spare and Dada and surrealism and felt that they could better extend their Wills into the world by taking a active part in the creation of their own novel rites and incantations. I, myself hate the thought of being tied to one belief system. Yoke me to Crowley? Might as well yoke me to Jesus or the 26th Dalai Lama! Perhaps I find the traditional tools of Wiccan altars (candles, pentacles, daggers, wands, &c.) conducive to my more readily attaining gross, but wish to invoke the spirit of Trump XVII as presented in the newly restored Jodorowski Marseilles deck, its balance, ambivalence, comfort, assurance and mystery (LETOILLE she's called on the original, not L'Étoile; or is it LETOULE?). Perhaps while in this gross, having already invoked Tarot for my soul to reflect, I prefer the I Ching divination method of 3 coins to yarrow stalks or pyromancy. And as I've had my doubts about the angels and demonology John Dee presented with Enochian magic, yet feel equally confident casting spells with Icelandic runes, sigils, herbs, spices, fire and bodily fluids, why should I NOT be free to express my Will however I see fit? What Tyven9 seems to have misunderstood is that Chaotes -or Chaos mages- seek emancipation from the rigid shackles of habitual rituals. With the infinite possible situations encountered in the modern world how could I expect to be bound by those limited permutations of just one school of metaphysical practice? Be it Thelema or Santeria;Orthodox or Catholic; Episcopal, Ayurvedic, Lakota Sioux or Masonic... Ritual is almost as essential as Faith to those who worship the innefible, the holy spark, the beauty & the truth, the divine, the cosmos, the sacred within each of us. So why allow the potential for falling into habits and just going through the motions of some dogmatic sacrament composed by a stranger over hundred years ago?? Why, when, as Liber Null & the Psychonaut offers us, every day we can tailor our own incantations to fit our needs exactly?? And that's the point of this: Active participation in the expression of the Will. Daily Creation.

I've been studying all things esoteric for over twenty years and i don't know what the hell shinola is or what it is intended for. I've been putting it in my hair. it's definitely not tooth paste. I wish there was a thelemite around so as to light the path so i can see what the hell i'm doing. are they all in their mom's basement? playing d&d as was let out in Freudian slip by the great I am levitating below.

This is more of a response to Tyven9. This person runs down the author and the matrial by disounting everything that the author writes. But the only real thing he says is that the author does not know what thelema is or how it is used. Ok, but now tell the people what it really is and how it is really used. But he doesn't nor do I think tyven9 can. Having studied magick for many years I can and will tell you that for a beginner this book will give you a path to follow. Yes there are errors in it yet there are error in the old grimores too. This beginning knowledge will help the inniate start, if that is truely what they want. It is more to weed out the mere curious from the serious student willing to put in the time ,research and practice to get deeper into the more esoteric arts.

As a response to that comment: where might we find more accurate text, other than hoping to meet someone randomly?

I'm glad I didn't pay for this book because it was a total load of crap and as an initiate of Thelema for the past 38 years, this book is 1. inaccurate - the author took way too many liberties and obviously does not understand Thelema. 2. Not nearly concise enough for the subject matter. What I saw and read here was some guy who's trying to grandstand with knowledge and experience he clearly does not have - spreading inaccuracies and misinformation, severely skewing what Thelema is and how it is used. The dead giveaway? He jumps right into magick. The mark of a grandstanding wannabe. This book would appeal to these wannabes who think that chaos magic will make them appear more powerful or intelligent to others or who want to be a witch in a week. That's NOT what Thelema is about. If any people reading this book and taking it as gospel ever encountered a REAL Thelemite, they would be shown in short order just how much they DO NOT know. This book is written for the average teenager who wants to make a rebellious stand against parents, church, society or try to impress their friends by pretending to embark on what is really pretty powerless magick. Liber Null is a good name because as far as true and meaningful knowledge and command of magick goes, this book is pretty void. This "order" that the author has put together appears nothing more than a role-playing game group. If people want to learn Thelema then seek out a real Thelemite and ask to be educated as an initiate. Don't waste your time on this kind of misinformation - learn properly! There are a lot of things critical to Thelema and other paths of Occultism that will never be found in books.
